What advice would you give someone before they took a leap into the accommodation business?

Make sure that you get plenty of sleep.

What do you think is the most important thing about being running your own B&B, guest house or small hotel?

It would be to have a clear idea of where you want to be and what your offering is.

What’s the funniest request you’ve ever received?

Some one asked for a free night once.

What is one thing you wish you knew before getting into this industry?

That I should have done this sooner.

What is the hardest part of your job?

It has to be getting up early in the morning.

What is the best part of your job?

Meeting the customers.

What tips do you have to make sure guests book with you directly?

You should use local websites, work hard to retain your customers and convert them to direct bookings.

Can you offer any tips for making sure you stand out against your competition?

Do not try to be all things to all men, don’t be flashy and what ever you do, do it perfectly.

What is the nicest thing a guest has said about their stay with you?

“It was perfect.”

Why did you choose to get into the accommodation business and what career did you have before?

I live in a tourist driven area and needed to capitalise on the potential income that was available. Before this I worked in the motor industry.
