Update on National B&B Week 2020

Updated 16/03/2020

Following the latest government statement regarding COVID-19 and the move to the ‘delay’ phase of response measures, it is with regret that the difficult decision has been taken to postpone National B&B Week.

While the safety of B&B owners and their guests must come first, we realise that this is a difficult time for independent property owners whose businesses are facing challenging circumstances. We are therefore redirecting our efforts, to support accommodation providers through this difficult time, and help limit the impact and disruption they are experiencing.

We will continue to publish offers from accommodation providers on our Offers page until the relaunched event takes place. In addition, we will collate helpful advice and guidance for property owners here where they can also find details of podcasts, webinars and web-based forums to help during these difficult circumstances.

We’d like to thank all of the properties and partners involved in National B&B Week for their continued support and look forward to sharing an update on plans to host an event later in the year in due course.

So, what is National B&B Week all about?

Since its launch in 2018 – starting as National B&B Day – the initiative has been dedicated to achieving two things:

  1. Raising the profile of the independent accommodation sector
  2. Getting as many guests as possible booking and staying in B&Bs over National B&B Week and beyond

We’re very proud to support the week, which is also backed by the B&B Association. After the success of B&B Day in 2018, 2019 saw the launch of National B&B Week, which garnered even more support for major industry players. By opening their doors to the public and the press, the nation could see the hard work and contribution B&Bs make to the tourism industry and to their local economies.

Here are some facts and figures to show you just how successful National B&B Week 2019 was!

So, what’s happening for National B&B Week 2020?

The whole week will be jam-packed with promotional activities to catch the media’s attention. So, here’s a little sneak peek at what you have to look forward to this year:

1. Offers for #BandBWeek

We’re encouraging B&B owners and managers to get their offers in for B&B Week 2020. This is to share with the public to inspire them to book a stay in a B&B in the run up to and during the week itself. So far this year, we’ve had more than double the offers we had this time last year and they just keep on coming! So if you want to get involved, stick your creative cap on and start thinking about what offer you could make to encourage guests to book!

Often the more quirky and fun the offer, the more likely they are to get picked up by the press!

Despite National B&B Week 2020 being postponed, many of the offers are still live and published on our site ready for June. Feel free to take a browse, and maybe take a little staycation to escape the big city?

2. Press, Influencer & MP Visits

Getting support from the people who run our country is a great way to get into the papers. Last year we had 15 MPs visit local B&Bs, showing them just how great B&Bs can be for their local economy.

This year, the plan is to go even bigger, with support from more MPs, more influencers and more press visits.

3. Insights from Great British B&Bs

We are compiling research on how B&Bs are a key element of the tourism industry, as well as gathering some insights from the experts – the B&Bs themselves! We’ll be collating our research for a press release to shine a light on the things independent accommodation owners do to make sure their guests have the perfect stay.

4. FHA Coffee & Cake Afternoon

Since its launch, National B&B Week has been dedicated to raising funds and providing stays for the Family Holiday Association. This year we’ll be taking it one step further by encouraging participating B&Bs to host a coffee morning, afternoon tea or cake sale in aid of FHA. Because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a slice of lemon drizzle?

How can you get involved in National B&B Week?

If you’re thinking all of this sounds absolutely fabulous – and why wouldn’t you? – You can submit an offer in the form of a discount or deal for a stay at your accommodation. Then, to stay up to date on all things #bandbweek, get following on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

Each year, we like to get in on the action and organise our own events to mark the occasion, so keep a look out on our social, @eviivo, and together we can show the nation how great a stay in independent accommodation can be!
