Heading to the Super Bowl this weekend? This year’s Super Bowl LVII clash takes place on Sunday at at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona – its third time hosting this prestigious highlight in the sporting calendar. With the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Kansas City Chiefs, it promises to be a must-see event.

If you want to get close to the action, accommodation in Glendale and nearby Phoenix is in short supply and prices are at a premium. So if you’re heading for the game, why not plan to spend the night before or after outside of the city? We’ve got some great suggestions where you can stay to extend your Super Bowl weekend adventure!

In Jerome, just a under 2 hours north of Glendale, is Ghost City Inn. Built as a lodging house in the 1890s, it is still welcoming guests. Its 6 individually themed rooms all reference the inn’s historic past and surroundings, from the Miner’s Suite to the Western Room. Amazing views from the property’s veranda take in old Jerome and the Verde Valley, and being away from the city, the night time views of star-studded skies are equally stunning.

A similar distance south east, Cat Mountain Lodge & Roadside Inn is an equally characterful place to break a journey or base yourself for an Arizona road trip. On the edge of Tuscon Mountain Park, it has colourful interiors with Mexican and ranch-style décor and furnishings. Great views too, across the cacti and scrub to Cat Mountain.

Alternatively, and depending on where your team loyalties lie, how about taking inspiration from the two Super Bowl final teams and explore their home cities for your next break?

Philadelphia, home of the Eagles, is one of the USA’s most important historical cities, founded in 1682 and where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the Constitution written. In the heart of the city, Pilgrims Rest offers peace and tranquillity while being only moments away from the city’s rich cultural sites. On the edge of the massive Fairmount Park (which is over 10 times larger than New York’s Central Park!) this charming 3-room bed and breakfast has been welcoming guests for 20 years.

Just south of the city, The Inn on Holly is another historic property, across the Delaware River in Pitman, NJ. This delightful inn is a Victorian treasure, not to be missed, with note-worthy architectural details inside and out, a wrap-around porch on which to relax and free-standing baths. A real labor of love from its owners, the property’s 3 rooms are exquisitely decorated and a full gourmet breakfast is served every day in the beautiful dining room.

If it’s The Chief’s hometown that has caught your attention, head to America’s heartland, to Kansas City. Here you’ll find jazz, theatres and great food. En-route, if traveling from the east, about an hour and a half out from Kansas City you’ll find Hotel Frederick in Boonville, MO. This historic property is well worth a stop on any journey and is the perfect blend of homely bed and breakfast and stylish boutique hotel. 30 guest rooms are spacious and stylish, tastefully decorated with thoughtful touches. Cycle hire is available for guests to head out to explore the surrounding countryside trails, and an on-site restaurant takes care of the heartiest of appetites.

Go west, and you’ll find another great place to stay on your USA adventure. Attwood House B&B in Randolph, KS, just a couple of hours west of Kansas City is not your typical B&B. Dating from 1910, its 3 rooms (the Americana Room, Asia Room and the European Suite) reflect its owner’s love of travel, with treasures collected on trips around the world to be admired in each one – you can’t miss the large Tibetan drum!

Whether you’re heading to the game, or planning a trip further afield this weekend, you are assured of a very warm, personal welcome at all these great American accommodations!
