Great news for gourmands! The UK’s Top 50 Gastropubs have just been announced. Even better, many of the winning pubs have rooms, so guests have a blissfully short journey to bed after enjoying a wonderful meal (and maybe a glass of wine or two!).
Of the 20 gastropubs on the list that offer accommodation, we’re delighted that more use eviivo to sell their rooms online than any other booking system.
Here we profile four of the top properties:
The Cornish Arms, Tavistock, Devon
Tucked between brooding Dartmoor and the Tamar Valley, The Cornish Arms is actually in Devon but gets its name by being the last coaching inn on the old route west to Cornwall. It made the Top 50 list just six months after opening in 2013 and has remained there ever since, this year moving up to 12th place. The pub’s restaurant holds an enviable 3 AA Rosettes, testament to the excellence of its food and a menu of hearty flavors that makes the most of quality ingredients from England’s South West.
Seven guest rooms are charmingly named after local wildlife (Badger, Toad, Red Squirrel) and decorated in bold colors and striking wallpapers, complemented with stylish fabrics and quirky furnishings. Some rooms even have gorgeous roll-top copper baths. Perfect for a pre-dinner soak!
The Dog at Wingham, Canterbury, Kent
The Dog offers contemporary British cuisine and 8 individually styled rooms in an ancient, timber-framed and Grade II listed building in Kent — the Garden of England. Rooms include a stunning suite with exposed wooden beams, brick fireplace and a 4-poster bed. All have comfortable king- or super-king sized beds and stylish, modern bathrooms. There’s also a family suite with adjoining rooms and a private landing.
Guests can choose from 50 gins for a pre-dinner aperitif before selecting from a refined menu of classic and modern dishes. And yes, as you’d expect given the pub’s name, dogs are welcome!
The Swan, Bampton, Devon
On the border of Devon and Somerset, The Swan sits amid beautiful countryside that’s popular with walkers and cyclists, close to Exmoor National Park. Dating back to 1450, the building was originally used as lodgings for craftsmen working on the nearby church. With just three spacious and stylish bedrooms, it is still welcoming guests — although with everything renovated to the highest modern standards! The Swan’s success is based on offering the very best in seasonal, regional ingredients alongside top-notch customer service.
The pub’s owners, Donna and Paul Berry, also run nearby Spelt, a restaurant based in a former bakery in the heart of this picturesque Devon market town.
The Bell Inn, Langford, Oxfordshire
A quintessential British country pub in the heart of the Cotswolds, with an imaginative menu of traditional favorites and creative dishes, plus eight sumptuous bedrooms. All rooms have king size double beds and en-suite walk-in showers, plush fabrics and luxury toiletries. Whether for a romantic rural break or a weekend away from it all with friends or family, The Bell’s classic take on hospitality includes roaring log fires, excellent service and first-class food and drink. The Thames Path and beautiful countryside are close by, ideal for working up an appetite for dinner.
We’re so proud that eviivo Suite is the go-to property management platform for these superb properties, helping power their business and taking care of all aspects of selling their rooms online while they take care of their guests.
