“Work hard, do not be afraid, and while others’ mistakes might ultimately be your responsibility, do not ever let them become your guilt.” That’s just one of the pieces of advice that eviivo CEO Michele Fitzpatrick shares with Hertelier, an online media platform that enlightens and inspires women to pursue, navigate, and nurture a career in hospitality.

In a piece that touches upon Michele’s long experience in travel and tech, readers can learn how the corporate work environment for women, while still not perfect, has at least improved over the years.

Michele also discusses the recent relase of eviivo’s Hospitality And Booking Tech Trends 2023 report. Among the trends eviivo indentified, ‘work from roam’ is the one to surprise and delight the most, with workers of all ages, not just younger millennials, now working from wherever they choose. “I love this. I love that they’re able to have a little more freedom and explore the world while they’re still plugged in with their work” says Michele.

It chimes with the desire for everyone, hosts and travelers alike, to seek activities that improve their wellbeing and health. For travelers, that might be seeking out spa stays, or yoga breaks, or simply locations offering a chance to unplug and recharge. For accommodation owners and managers, it’s increasing levels of automation at their properties, freeing them from mundane admin, or using tech such as a mobile app to allow them to manage their bookings from anywhere, not just the confines of an office.

Other trends to watch included a preference by travelers for smaller, independent accommodations over larger corporate chain hotels, and despite rising costs and inflation, travelers prioritising spending on their trips but seeking value for money and memorable experiences.

With travel and tourism set to grow in 2023 after recovery in 2022, travelers across the globe are planning their next trips. For them, what is Michele’s top travel tip? “Pack light and only hand luggage if you can.”
